Loukoumades

Greek Loukoumades: Little Honey-Drizzled Bites of Heaven

If you’re craving a taste of Greek tradition, look no further than loukoumades! These little golden dough balls, fried until crispy, are then bathed in a honey syrup and dusted with cinnamon. Loukoumades have been enjoyed since ancient Greece, believed to be the first recorded “doughnut” given as a prize to winning Olympic athletes!

How they’re made: Loukoumades start with a simple yeast dough, left to rise until airy. The dough is then dropped in small spoonfuls into hot oil, where they puff up into light, crispy spheres. Once golden, they’re tossed in a warm honey syrup and topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon and sometimes crushed walnuts or sesame seeds for a nutty crunch.

How to enjoy: The best way to eat loukoumades? Fresh and hot! The combination of the warm honey glaze and the crispy dough makes each bite melt in your mouth. Perfect as a snack or dessert, they’re often served with a cup of Greek coffee or tea.

Loukoumades bring a taste of Greece to your table with a blend of textures and sweet, aromatic flavors that capture the spirit of Greek hospitality and tradition.

½ tsp sugar
½ tsp salt

Heat oil in a frying pan and drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil. (Dip the spoon in water first so the dough won’t stick.)

Fry the loukoumades until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining batter.
