Chocolate Orange Slices: The Perfect Sweet and Citrusy Treat!
Looking for a sweet treat that’s easy to make and irresistibly delicious?
Chocolate orange slices are a fantastic choice! With their rich, decadent chocolate coating and a hint of fresh orange, they’re a perfect blend of sweet and citrusy goodness.
Simple Ingredients:
All you need are fresh oranges and good-quality chocolate (dark or milk works great).
Quick to Make:
This recipe takes just 10-15 minutes.
Naturally Refreshing:
The tangy orange adds a burst of flavor that balances perfectly with the chocolate.
Ingredients
3 large oranges, cut into thin slices
4 cups water
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips (or finely chopped chocolate)
1 tbsp coconut oil or butter (optional, to help with melting)
Sea salt or orange zest (optional, for garnish)
Directions
Prepare the Oranges:
Wash the oranges and cut them into thin slices.
Make the Syrup:
In a large, thick-bottomed saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat on medium until it starts to boil.
Add the orange slices, arranging them in a single layer so they don’t overlap.
Boil for 10-12 minutes, then reduce the heat to very low.
Allow the syrup to simmer gently—just barely bubbling—for about 35 minutes, flipping the slices every 5 minutes, until they soften but retain their shape.
Cool the Oranges:
Remove from heat and let the slices cool in the syrup.
Dry the Slices:
Place each slice on parchment paper to dry, flipping them regularly and changing the paper as needed.
This may take 2-3 hours, but for quicker drying, you can use a very low oven.
Air-drying helps the slices retain better color, aroma, and flavor.
Melt the Chocolate:
In a microwave-safe bowl or double boiler, melt your favorite chocolate until smooth.
Dip and Set:
Dip each orange slice halfway into the melted chocolate, then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Sprinkle with sea salt, optionally.
Let them cool on a rack, or refrigerate to speed up the setting process..
Store in the fridge in an airtight container.
