Homemade Butter

Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a kitchen newbie, crafting your own butter is a rewarding experience that’ll leave your taste buds singing.

Making homemade butter is a simple process that requires just one ingredient: heavy cream.

Ingredients

1 pint (2 cups) of heavy cream

Optional: Salt to taste (if making salted butter)

Directions

Pour the heavy cream into a clean glass jar or container with a tight-fitting lid.

Make sure the jar is only filled halfway to allow room for the cream to shake and expand.

Close the lid tightly and shake the jar vigorously for about 10-15 minutes.

You can also use a hand mixer or stand mixer with a whisk attachment to speed up the process.

As you continue to shake or mix, the cream will first turn into whipped cream, then eventually separate into butter and buttermilk. Keep shaking until you notice the butter clumping together and separating from the liquid.

Once the butter has formed, pour off the buttermilk (which can be saved and used in baking or cooking).

Rinse the butter under cold water, kneading it gently to remove any remaining buttermilk.

This will help prevent the butter from spoiling quickly.

If desired, add salt to taste and knead it into the butter.Store the homemade butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last for about 1-2 weeks.

Experiment with different flavors by adding herbs, spices, or honey for a personalized twist

Enjoy your freshly made homemade butter on bread, pancakes, or baked goods!
